Take care of a watch is a task that varies greatly depending on the model in question, to the material it is made from the crate, the glass that covers that includes functions and, last but not least, the quality of the object itself.
However, there are some tricks to keep in mind that apply to any timepiece.
1) Usage and maintenance
The main thing and perhaps obvious, once worn a watch, is to avoid shocks that could damage or scratch the glass case. In the case of signs of cash unless they are too deep, with a good polished performed by an expert, the clock back like new. As for the glass, it must be kept under control and, if it has cracks, it should be replaced. Hardly, however, there will be scratches on a Sapphire Crystal glass, material with a high surface hardness and scratch-resistant. Particular attention should be made by those who habitually carries out long journeys in motion, as the strong vibrations can cause damage. The same warning applies to whoever exposes to the Sun on a long-term basis, especially if long sun exposure follows an immersion in cold water. In this case, the danger is that of a thermal shock resulting in a variation of gear and dulling of the dial. Note, however, that the last two caveats are valid only for the classic watches, jewellery or complicated, because the sports models there are studies that bring them away from these problems. As regards mechanical watches manuals, an operation in which caution is precisely that: the Council is to maintain it in the morning, when the clock is “at rest”, taking advantage of the early morning calm in order to promote the symbolic moment of reflection at the beginning of the day. In addition, the Crown must be rotated fully forward, stopping as soon as you feel resistance.
2) Conservation
Once removed the clock, it goes lying with care, and the strap lying horizontally, so as to avoid unsightly creases. In the event that you decide not to use it for a while, should be checked well the place where it will be preserved. If set, as often happens, in a safe deposit box, make sure that there are no inside moisture and condensation and perhaps avoid this with appropriate absorbent sachets. In a precaution, however, the clock can be wrapped into the shoes of soft cloth and placed with its own box, in plastic bags.
3) Cleaning
Clean a watch is perhaps an apparently logical but very delicate. The recommendation is to remove the strap and proceed with a cotton swab moistened with water. If the watch is underwater, however, you should wash it with soap and warm water, using a soft brush, and then wipe it with a soft cloth, perhaps buckskin, or what you use to clean your jewelry or silverware. A dive watch should be washed after each dive in the sea, and for a professional use, to be replaced once a year the seals.
